Learn et al. was a design and production agency, developing e-learning courses. I worked with Ritchie Mehta’s team at Learn et al. for only one year and found it to be one of the most challenging yet exhilarating experiences of my career up until that point – I absolutely loved working for this company.
I lead all video production and motion graphics at Learn et al. I managed two other motion graphic designers plus an external team of freelance designers and voiceover artists. I worked on various types of projects however mainly focused on serving Pearson and School of Marketing (SO Marketing/SoM).
Work for Pearson involved producing animations as part of the e-learning courses; courses that we also produced for Pearson. These could vary in length (30-90 seconds) and be a mixture of vector based animation or animated images with voiceover. We’d create the vector assets ourselves or source them from Shutterstock.
School of Marketing videos were piece to camera, shot in Learn et al’s in-house studio in front of a green screen, overlaid with animated graphics (see screenshots below). Our team produced the brand guidelines for SoM; I was responsible for creating the visual language adopted for all motion.
School of Marketing
The first marketing video I created for SoM’s home page and filmed in Learn et al’s studio with actor Dean Ross. I shot Dean in front of a green screen and animated assets sourced from royalty-free stock websites (including the “lovely Vera”!) to create this video. At the time, I chose to make the video humorous and fun to appeal to its younger target audience, aligning with an Everyman and Jester brand archetype. In hindsight, I think the video is too long; I’d make this video very differently today compared to back then!
Learn et al – Future of Education
A video we produced as part of a pitch. The script was written by Ritchie; storyboarded and animated by myself (except at 0:54-1:37, which was animated by another member of the team and the animated word ‘CONTENT’ at 1:38-1:40, which was sourced royalty-free online).
Global Online MBA courses – Edinburgh Napier University
Learn et al partnered with Edinburgh Napier University to create various courses. This video was produced for the MBA courses page on their website. It was storyboarded by myself. It’s mostly comprised of stock footage, overlaid with graphics and text. A few of the stock footage clips have been composited with screenshots from the online suite website, tracked by using Mocha in After Effects. We used camera tracking to create the animated 3D effect at 1:55-1:58.
