Based in the in-house creative studio within the marketing team, I was responsible for video and motion graphic production at Moneybox. I worked with another graphic designer to produce performance marketing ads, App and Play Store demos, User Interface (UI) animations, in-app campaigns, website content and animated content for email campaigns and social channels.
Our team worked cross-functionally with Product and developers to produce all decorative and functional JSON (Lottie) animations that either sat permanently in the app or for limited-time events/campaigns.
I had many fantastic opportunities during my time at Moneybox to work with external agencies and freelancers on larger-scale projects including a Crowdfunding pitch video and various Moneybox Academy videos. The biggest project I was a part of was Moneybox’s second television advertisement.
I worked primarily in After Effects, Illustrator and Cinema 4D for animation I produced.
Play Store App Demo
Play Store video asset requirements are less strict than the App Store, giving more freedom to create longer, informative videos. I used Cinema 4D for the handset’s 3D movement with comped animated UI in After Effects. I storyboarded this video. I only animated the UI and assets; I did not create them.
Save and Invest! – Target marketing ad
I used Cinema 4D for the handset’s 3D movement with comped animated UI in After Effects. I did not storyboard nor create the assets for this video – I only animated them. We made 1:1, 4:5 and 16:9 versions of all the ads we made at Moneybox for social channels and web.
Saving vs Investing – Target marketing ad
The performance marketing team, graphic designer and I would constantly produce a wide variety of ads in different styles for different channels to test which perform better. I like this experimental one for being more retro, inspired by the video game Out Run. I did not storyboard nor create the assets for this video – I only animated them and sourced the soundtrack. We made 1:1, 4:5 and 16:9 versions of all the ads we made at Moneybox for social channels and web.
Say hello to Moneybox Mortgage Advice
When we launched Mortgage Advice, I was asked to create a video celebrate the event but also served as a demo to how it works. I storyboarded this video. Assets were provided.
Moneybox Academy – What are tracker funds? and How to manage your investing risk
Financial literacy is something Moneybox takes very seriously, and continuously adds videos to its Moneybox Academy library. We worked with external videographers very often to create high-quality, e-learning videos that can be accessed within the app or on YouTube. The two examples chosen were videos I storyboarded and starred in!. I produced the animated introduction and completed all grading and editing. I didn’t write any of the scripts. I was able to read the teleprompter very comfortably thanks to the experience I gained working with the many talented actors during my time at Learn et al.
“Trinity Biotech plc a commercial stage biotechnology company focused on human diagnostics and diabetes management solutions, including wearable biosensors, announced the launch of its continuous glucose monitoring microsite.” See launch article.
I worked on the team that produced the microsite.
All motion and editing was produced by myself. Storyboard was created by the team. All UI assets were created by the team’s UI designer. All royalty-free stock assets and sound were sourced from Shutterstock, Adobe Stock and Envato.
Learn et al. was a design and production agency, developing e-learning courses. I worked with Ritchie Mehta’s team at Learn et al. for only one year and found it to be one of the most challenging yet exhilarating experiences of my career up until that point – I absolutely loved working for this company.
I lead all video production and motion graphics at Learn et al. I managed two other motion graphic designers plus an external team of freelance designers and voiceover artists. I worked on various types of projects however mainly focused on serving Pearson and School of Marketing (SO Marketing/SoM).
Work for Pearson involved producing animations as part of the e-learning courses; courses that we also produced for Pearson. These could vary in length (30-90 seconds) and be a mixture of vector based animation or animated images with voiceover. We’d create the vector assets ourselves or source them from Shutterstock.
School of Marketing videos were piece to camera, shot in Learn et al’s in-house studio in front of a green screen, overlaid with animated graphics (see screenshots below). Our team produced the brand guidelines for SoM; I was responsible for creating the visual language adopted for all motion.
School of Marketing
The first marketing video I created for SoM’s home page and filmed in Learn et al’s studio with actor Dean Ross. I shot Dean in front of a green screen and animated assets sourced from royalty-free stock websites (including the “lovely Vera”!) to create this video. At the time, I chose to make the video humorous and fun to appeal to its younger target audience, aligning with an Everyman and Jester brand archetype. In hindsight, I think the video is too long; I’d make this video very differently today compared to back then!
Learn et al – Future of Education
A video we produced as part of a pitch. The script was written by Ritchie; storyboarded and animated by myself (except at 0:54-1:37, which was animated by another member of the team and the animated word ‘CONTENT’ at 1:38-1:40, which was sourced royalty-free online).
Global Online MBA courses – Edinburgh Napier University
Learn et al partnered with Edinburgh Napier University to create various courses. This video was produced for the MBA courses page on their website. It was storyboarded by myself. It’s mostly comprised of stock footage, overlaid with graphics and text. A few of the stock footage clips have been composited with screenshots from the online suite website, tracked by using Mocha in After Effects. We used camera tracking to create the animated 3D effect at 1:55-1:58.
Thales showcased their latest IFE (In-Flight Entertainment) at the Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) in 2022. Thales asked us to produce a promotional video that would play on repeat at their main exhibit.
All UI screens were produced by our UI designer. 3D assets were provided by Thales (IFE) or sourced from stock websites (such as the smart phone and headphones). Stock imagery were sourced from Shutterstock. The video was storyboarded by our Senior UI designer and User Experience Design Director. All motion created by myself; 3D animation produced in Cinema 4D and rendered using Octane.
eMathsMaster was an e-learning company providing online maths courses. My role was to produce animated lesson videos that taught users mathematical concepts primarily for Key Stages 2-4 as well as ‘Teaching Techniques’ videos that gave teachers tips and tricks to teach said concepts.
The courses were written by eMathsMaster’s partner, The Dean Trust. Lessons and Teaching Techniques videos were outlined to us with a scripts, notes and diagrams that acted as our storyboards. Our motion team would then bring these lessons to life.
We used After Effects templates that had rigged characters already created and ready to animate for any character animation. These rigs also had various pre-animated actions that could be applied to the characters however, depending on the subject matter, we’d very often custom animate the characters for the videos. We’d source vector assets from Freepik as well as create our own in Illustrator.
Even though we didn’t have Cinema 4D licences at eMathsMaster, I liked to use the Lite version to create simple assets to enhance the videos. Check out the last images on this page.
